In 2018, the first Russian digital monitoring system for air traffic of the new generation Almanac MLAT was successfully launched at the airport of Mineralnye Vody.
The Almanac system was deployed for the provision of air traffic of the “Air navigation of the South”. The equipment allows to monitor in the entire airfield zone up to 150 kilometers in all modes used today in civil aviation for secondary surveillance. The Almanac MLAT was implemented in Mineralnye Vody in a record-fast period of eight months, and launched in December 2018. With its introduction, Mineralnye Vody Airport was able to receive aircraft in the most complex weather conditions with a cloud height of up to 30 meters and a visibility range of 350 meters.
The first in the south of Russia, the Almanac MLAT 20 receiving and transmitting geographically distributed stations. The system provides monitoring of maneuvering area – runways, taxiways, aprons with parking places and approach. The Almanac MLAT has become an essential tool for the air traffic controllers as the main source of ground-based surveillance information. It also allows to detect and identify ground movement operations of vehicles equipped with Gnome mobile beacons.
